What's Happening?
GE Vernova and Blue Energy are collaborating to develop a 2.5-GW hybrid nuclear and natural gas facility in Texas. This project aims to address the increasing energy demands of AI data centers. The facility will utilize GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s
BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR) alongside natural gas turbines. The natural gas component will begin operations while the nuclear portion is under construction, allowing for a phased approach to energy production. The project is expected to start producing energy from natural gas by 2030 and from nuclear power by 2032.
