A construction director has been fined following an incident where a worker suffered a fractured skull and back after falling from a ladder. The accident occurred in December 2023 at a construction site in Staffordshire, where the worker was installing
wall insulation. The ladder was placed across a stairwell opening, leading to the fall. An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that BHG (Stone) Ltd failed to properly plan the work and did not implement adequate safety measures. The director, Alistair Howells, was fined £2,000 for breaching health and safety laws, while the company was fined £16,000 and ordered to pay £4,000 in costs.
