What's Happening?
Rio Tinto has extended its partnership with the Clontarf Foundation for an additional five years, continuing their joint efforts to improve education and employment outcomes for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men. Since the partnership began
in 2008, the Clontarf network has expanded significantly, now supporting over 12,000 participants across 161 academies. The program focuses on building self-esteem and cultural identity, helping students stay connected to their schools and communities. An independent evaluation in 2025 highlighted the program's success, with high school retention and completion rates among participants. The partnership also provides practical career pathways through worksite visits and mentoring.
Why It's Important?
The extension of this partnership underscores Rio Tinto's commitment to social responsibility and community investment. By supporting Indigenous education, the company is contributing to the development of future leaders and professionals within these communities, fostering long-term positive change. This initiative not only benefits the participants but also enhances Rio Tinto's corporate image and strengthens its relationships with Indigenous communities. The focus on education and employment aligns with broader societal goals of reducing inequality and promoting diversity, making this partnership a model for other corporations seeking to make a meaningful impact.
