What's Happening?
Sunswap has launched its Endurance electric refrigeration system in France, partnering with Chereau, a European refrigerated vehicle manufacturer. This system aims to replace traditional diesel-powered
refrigeration with battery storage and solar panels, offering significant reductions in operating costs and emissions. The Endurance system supports various temperature applications and has been validated by operators across Europe, including DFDS, TIP Group, Tesco, and Ocado. Trials with French operators are currently underway, and the partnership will be showcased at Solutrans 2025 in Lyon.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of Sunswap's Endurance system is a significant step towards reducing diesel dependency in refrigerated transport, aligning with global efforts to lower emissions. This technology offers up to an 81% reduction in operating costs and a 35% savings in total cost of ownership, making it economically attractive for operators. As diesel costs rise and environmental regulations tighten, the demand for zero-emission solutions like Endurance is expected to grow, potentially transforming the refrigerated transport industry and contributing to broader sustainability goals.
What's Next?
Sunswap plans to expand its market reach beyond France, targeting other European countries as demand for electric refrigeration technology increases. The partnership with Chereau is expected to facilitate this expansion, leveraging Chereau's production and distribution capabilities. The ongoing trials with French operators will provide valuable insights and feedback, potentially leading to further refinements of the Endurance system. The formal presentation at Solutrans 2025 will likely attract attention from industry stakeholders, paving the way for future collaborations and market entries.
