What's Happening?
Damen Shipyards Group has signed a contract with the Polidano Group for the delivery of two Combi Freighters (CF) 3850. The Malta-based company will use these vessels primarily for transporting aggregates for its construction business. The CF 3850 vessels,
named Denise P and Julia P, will replace a single vessel currently operated by Polidano, significantly increasing its cargo capacity. The vessels offer multiple cargo configurations, allowing for the transport of a wide range of cargoes, including containers and breakbulk, in the Mediterranean region.
Why It's Important?
The acquisition of two Combi Freighters by the Polidano Group marks a strategic expansion of its maritime transport capabilities. By increasing cargo capacity and efficiency, the company can enhance its operational performance and reduce environmental impact through modern hull design and minimal water resistance. This move aligns with global trends towards more sustainable shipping practices. Damen's ability to provide fast delivery due to pre-existing construction highlights the advantages of series production in shipbuilding, potentially setting a precedent for other companies seeking rapid fleet expansion.
