What's Happening?
Punjab National Bank (PNB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihoods Mission (TNSRLM) to support women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Tamil Nadu. The agreement, signed during the Tamil Nadu Global Women Summit 2026, aims to enhance the business capacity and financial sustainability of SHGs, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. The partnership will provide SHGs with improved access to banking services, credit facilities, and financial guidance, promoting financial inclusion and sustainable economic growth.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is significant as it aligns with broader efforts to empower women economically and promote inclusive banking. By supporting women entrepreneurs, particularly in underserved
areas, the initiative aims to foster economic independence and community development. The collaboration between PNB and TNSRLM could serve as a model for similar initiatives across India, potentially leading to increased economic participation by women and contributing to the overall economic development of the region.
