What's Happening?
Ensemble has partnered with enterprise AI company Cohere to create a revenue cycle management (RCM)-native large language model specifically for healthcare financial workflows. This model is designed to support AI agents in tasks ranging from patient
intake to account resolution. Unlike general-purpose models, this custom model is shaped by Ensemble's operational expertise and fine-tuned on real RCM tasks. The collaboration aims to improve coding, capture more revenue, and enhance outcomes for providers and patients. Ensemble plans to release the model in the second half of 2026, building on a two-year data partnership with Cohere.
Why It's Important?
The development of an RCM-native large language model represents a significant advancement in healthcare financial management. By leveraging AI, health systems can reduce denials and streamline financial workflows, ultimately capturing more revenue. This initiative is particularly timely as health systems face increasing financial pressures and seek strategic partners to navigate the evolving AI landscape. The model's ability to comprehend complex clinical, financial, and regulatory language could lead to productivity improvements that surpass those achievable by standard models, offering a competitive edge in the industry.
What's Next?
Ensemble plans to release the RCM-native model later in 2026, which is expected to fuel existing AI projects. Health systems are increasingly adopting AI solutions for revenue cycle management, with many exploring, piloting, or implementing generative AI tools. The partnership between Ensemble and Cohere may set a benchmark for AI applications in healthcare financial operations, potentially influencing industry standards and practices.
