What's Happening?
Likewise Group plc, a leading UK flooring distributor, has invested £3 million in acquiring a new distribution centre located on Howley Park Industrial Estate in Morley, Yorkshire. This facility, which spans over 21,000 square feet, includes warehouse
and office space, along with a secure yard and parking. The acquisition is part of Likewise's strategy to streamline its supply chain management, particularly for palletised goods from the Far East and Europe. The new centre is expected to enhance the efficiency of planning incoming containers and increase capacity at other distribution hubs. This move follows a previous deal where Likewise secured a 10-year lease on an 80,000 square foot space at Leeds 27 Industrial Estate. The company, established in 2018, supplies products to independent flooring retailers and contractors across the UK.
Why It's Important?
The investment in a second distribution centre in Yorkshire is significant for Likewise Group as it aims to bolster its supply chain capabilities and support its growth strategy. By enhancing logistical efficiency, the company can better manage its inventory and distribution processes, potentially leading to increased sales revenue. This expansion is also indicative of the company's confidence in the UK market despite ongoing economic uncertainties. The move could set a precedent for other companies in the sector to invest in infrastructure that supports operational efficiency and growth. Additionally, the investment may contribute to local economic development by creating jobs and stimulating business activities in the region.
What's Next?
Likewise Group plans to continue its expansion with the extension of its distribution hub in Newport, Wales, which is scheduled to be operational by July 2026. This expansion is expected to provide additional storage and cutting capacity, further supporting the company's growth objectives. As the company aims to increase its sales revenue towards £250 million, it may explore further acquisitions or expansions to enhance its market presence. Stakeholders, including local businesses and the workforce, will likely monitor these developments closely, as they could lead to new opportunities and partnerships.
