What's Happening?
Metso has announced the commencement of the second phase of its Lokomotion technology centre in Tampere, Finland, with an investment of approximately €60 million. This phase includes the construction of a new crusher factory, enhancing the facility's
capacity for producing aggregates and sand technologies. The project, part of a larger €200 million investment, aims to establish a modern, resource-efficient production hub. The second phase will expand the existing assembly and logistics facilities, with construction beginning in June 2026 and expected completion in the early 2030s.
Why It's Important?
This investment underscores Metso's commitment to maintaining its leadership in the aggregates solutions market. By expanding its production capabilities, Metso aims to improve its global delivery capacity and support sustainable industrial growth. The project is also significant for the local economy in Tampere, as it represents the largest industrial investment in the region this century, potentially boosting employment and regional industrial development. The new technology centre is expected to enhance Metso's competitive edge in the global market.
What's Next?
Construction of the second phase will proceed alongside the first phase, with crusher production at the new factory anticipated to start in autumn 2028. Metso plans to gradually relocate its current operations from the Hatanpää site to the new technology centre, eventually divesting the old site. This strategic move is expected to streamline operations and optimize production efficiency. Stakeholders will be monitoring the project's progress and its impact on Metso's market position and regional economic contributions.
