What's Happening?
Kraft Heinz has launched a new line of Jell-O products called Jell-O Simply, which is formulated without synthetic colors and artificial sweeteners. This new product line includes instant pudding mix, gelatin mix, and ready-to-eat gelatin, all made with natural
ingredients such as fruit juice. The Jell-O Simply line offers flavors like orange, raspberry lemonade, and blueberry, with 25% less sugar than the original Jell-O formulation. The company has committed to removing FD&C colors from its products, with 90% of its portfolio already free of these synthetic colors. The new products are available nationwide, with the ready-to-eat gelatin priced at $3.99 per 4-count pack and the gelatin and pudding mixes launching in August for $2.24 per 4-count box.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the Jell-O Simply line reflects a broader trend in the food industry towards cleaner labels and natural ingredients, driven by consumer demand for healthier options. This move by Kraft Heinz could influence other food manufacturers to reformulate their products to meet similar consumer expectations. By reducing sugar content and eliminating artificial additives, Kraft Heinz is positioning itself to appeal to health-conscious consumers, potentially increasing its market share in the competitive dessert category. This shift also aligns with the company's modernization efforts, which could enhance its brand image and customer loyalty.
What's Next?
Kraft Heinz plans to continue its efforts to remove FD&C colors from its entire product portfolio. The company is using a three-pronged approach of removing, replacing, and reinventing products to achieve this goal. As the Jell-O Simply line gains traction, Kraft Heinz may expand its offerings with additional flavors and product innovations. The success of this initiative could prompt other companies to accelerate their own clean label transformations, potentially leading to industry-wide changes in product formulations.
