What's Happening?
Telefónica is advancing its edge cloud strategy by deploying 17 commercial edge nodes across Spain, aligning with the country's autonomous regions. As of now, ten nodes are operational, with the remaining
seven expected to be deployed by the end of 2026. These nodes are being installed in redundant copper exchanges and are part of Telefónica's broader strategy to create a federated cloud edge network across Europe. This initiative is part of the European Union's Important Project of Common European Interest for Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services (IPCEI CIS) program. Telefónica aims to provide a unified view for enterprises deploying applications across various cloud environments, enhancing capabilities for low latency and AI applications.
