What's Happening?
The Black Beauty Club is organizing a multicity event called 'Beauty on the Block', set to take place in New York on June 21 and Chicago on August 8. This event will combine elements of a beauty marketplace and a block party, featuring brand founders
and service providers such as makeup artists and hair braiders. The initiative aims to address the market gap where Black brands capture a smaller share of industry revenue despite significant contributions from Black consumers. The event will be free to attend and is expected to draw over 2,000 participants in each city.
Why It's Important?
'Beauty on the Block' represents a significant effort to empower Black-owned beauty brands by providing them with a platform to showcase their products and services. This initiative not only supports economic growth within the Black beauty community but also promotes inclusivity by inviting a diverse audience to participate. By partnering with companies like Square and Cashapp, the event underscores the importance of creating infrastructure that supports Black entrepreneurs in converting cultural influence into economic success.
What's Next?
Following the 'Beauty on the Block' events, The Black Beauty Club plans to host its flagship Black Beauty Talks summit in September. This continued focus on community-building and industry support suggests a long-term commitment to fostering growth and visibility for Black beauty brands. The success of these events could lead to more frequent and widespread initiatives, potentially influencing how beauty industry events are structured to be more inclusive and representative.
