Early Beginnings and Kyuss
Brant Bjork's musical journey began in high school when he formed a band with friends
Chris Cockrell, Nick Oliveri, Josh Homme, and John Garcia. Initially named Katzenjammer, the band soon became Sons of Kyuss, inspired by a Dungeons & Dragons monster. Eventually, they shortened the name to Kyuss. Bjork was a major creative force in Kyuss, contributing significantly to the band's songwriting. Kyuss relocated to Los Angeles in 1990 and signed with Chameleon Records, releasing their debut album, Wretch, in 1991. The band achieved international success with Elektra Records, becoming pioneers of the desert rock genre.
Post-Kyuss Ventures
After leaving Kyuss in 1994 due to creative differences, Bjork continued to explore his musical interests. He founded El Camino Records, later Duna Records, releasing albums he was involved in. Bjork joined Josh Homme's Palm Desert musical collective, The Desert Sessions, contributing to several releases. He also played guitar for LAB and Fatso Jetson, expanding his musical repertoire. Bjork's drumming featured on Mondo Generator's albums, Cocaine Rodeo and A Drug Problem That Never Existed, showcasing his versatility.
Solo Career and Recent Projects
Bjork's solo career began with the release of Jalamanta in 1999, where he performed all instruments. He formed Brant Bjork and the Bros in 2003, touring Europe and recording albums like Saved by Magic. Bjork's music evolved over the years, with albums like Punk Rock Guilt and Gods & Goddesses reflecting his growth. In 2020, Bjork co-founded Stöner, a stoner rock power trio, releasing albums like Stoners Rule and Totally.... His latest solo album, Bougainvillea Suite, marks a bittersweet milestone as the last record from his Joshua Tree studio.
