Detmers' talent caught the attention of college scouts, and he committed to the University of Louisville. During his time with the Louisville Cardinals, Detmers established himself as one of the top college pitchers in the nation. In his sophomore year, he was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Pitcher of the Year and earned first-team All-American honors. His junior year was equally impressive, with Detmers posting a 1.23 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 22 innings before the season was cut short due to the pandemic.
Draft and Minor League Journey
Detmers' college success made him a top prospect for the MLB draft. In 2020, he was selected tenth overall by the Los Angeles Angels in the first round. He signed with the team, forgoing his final year of college eligibility. Detmers began his professional career in the Angels' farm system, quickly making his mark.
