The Polestar 4 represents a significant step forward in the realm of electric vehicles, particularly in the luxury SUV segment. As a product of Polestar, an affiliate of Geely Holding and Volvo Cars, the Polestar 4 combines cutting-edge technology with a commitment to sustainability. This compact luxury crossover SUV, which began production in November 2023, is designed to offer a premium driving experience with its advanced features and impressive
performance.
Design and Features
The Polestar 4 is built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, which is specifically designed for battery electric vehicles. This platform is shared with other models like the Zeekr 001 and the Volvo EX30, highlighting its versatility and focus on electric mobility. The Polestar 4 is marketed as a coupe SUV, featuring a sleek and modern design that sets it apart from traditional SUVs. One of its most distinctive design elements is the absence of a rear window, replaced by a roof-mounted camera system that enhances visibility and safety.
Inside, the Polestar 4 offers a luxurious and technologically advanced environment. Standard equipment includes a 15.4-inch landscape touchscreen with Android Automotive, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.7-inch head-up display. The interior is crafted from 100% recycled polyester, reflecting Polestar's commitment to sustainability. Additionally, the vehicle features a full-length glass roof and a digital rear-vision mirror, providing a spacious and airy feel.
Performance and Powertrain
The Polestar 4 is available in two powertrain options: a Single Motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a Dual Motor all-wheel drive (AWD). The Single Motor model generates 272 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 7.4 seconds, with a top speed of 110 mph. The Dual Motor model, on the other hand, offers a combined output of 544 horsepower, allowing it to reach 62 mph in just 3.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 120 mph. Both models are equipped with a 102 kWh lithium nickel manganese cobalt battery, ensuring a substantial electric range.
Market Availability and Future Plans
The Polestar 4 became available in Europe, Canada, and the Asia-Pacific region starting in 2024. Polestar has also announced plans for an estate-styled variant, set to launch in 2026, which will be produced alongside the coupe SUV model in South Korea. This expansion reflects Polestar's strategy to broaden its market presence and cater to diverse consumer preferences. As the fastest production car in Polestar's lineup, the Polestar 4 is poised to make a significant impact in the luxury electric vehicle market, offering a blend of performance, sustainability, and cutting-edge design.
