Following MG Rover's collapse, Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC) acquired the MG marque, the Longbridge plant, and its production tooling in 2005. NAC merged into SAIC Motor in 2007, granting SAIC full control of MG. This transition marked a new era for MG, as SAIC began producing MG vehicles in China and exporting them globally.
Under SAIC's ownership, MG Motor expanded its operations beyond the UK, establishing manufacturing plants in Thailand, India, Indonesia, and Taiwan. The brand briefly assembled cars at the Longbridge plant in the UK from 2007 to 2016 before reverting to sourcing vehicles directly from China.
