The 56-year-old actor took his last breath at a private hospital in Kochi, where he had been on ventilator support following a sudden decline in his health. Known for his exceptional versatility in comedy, drama, and character roles, Salim Kumar established a distinctive presence in Malayalam cinema throughout his extensive career. In the wake of this tragic news, numerous film personalities, including Mammootty, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and others, shared heartfelt tributes honoring his significant contributions to cinema.
Industry reacts to Salim Kumar's passing
Paying tribute to Salim Kumar, Mammootty expressed an emotional message on X, stating that Salim was someone who "laughed and made others laugh, thought and made others think, and occasionally cried and made others cry." He expressed sorrow that the actor's passing now brings only tears, noting that his departure has become "an unending sorrow."
Prithviraj Sukumaran shared his grief through a touching Instagram Story, writing, "Farewell Salim-etta. Thank you for the memories," as he honored the late actor's enduring influence on Malayalam cinema and those who collaborated with him.
In another tribute, Tovino Thomas posted a picture of the late Salim Kumar on Instagram, accompanied by a heartbreak emoji.
Expressing sorrow over Salim Kumar's passing, V. D. Satheesan remarked that the actor was not only a "prince of laughter" but also a deeply connected individual who was unafraid to voice his political views. He characterized Salim Kumar as a versatile talent capable of evoking laughter and tears with the same expression, adding that Malayalam cinema has lost a legend while he has lost a brother.
Salim Kumar's funeral
Salim Kumar's final rites are set to occur on Sunday (June 7) in his hometown of Paravur. His remains will be available at Paravur Town Hall from 9 am to allow the public and fans to pay their final respects. Reports indicate that Kerala Opposition Leader VD Satheesan is also anticipated to visit and extend condolences.
