Sony is the most dominant entity when we talk about gaming console production as there is still no match for PlayStation consoles. The company, after discontinuation of PSP, tried a couple of times to
grab the handheld gaming console market but was unable to leave a strong mark. However, things are going to change with the PS6 handheld that is making headlines every now and then. Without wasting a single minute, let's jump straight to the leaks and rumours related to the upcoming console.
PS6 Handheld Price In India And Release Window
The Sony PlayStation 6 handheld could be priced at a lower point to make it more accessible for the masses. Speculations are that it will reach the Indian shores at a price of around Rs 36,999. As for the release window, rumours have it that the production of the same will begin somewhere around the end of first half in 2027 and it will be on sale starting from the first quarter of 2028. As of now, the device has been named Project Canis and this time, it will not just be a streaming device but a full fledged handheld just like PSP.
PS6 Handheld Specifications And Features
The PS6 handheld will bring a custom 'Canis' processor based on TSMC's 3nm process and it will have four AMD Zen 6c cores to offer high gaming power. It will be optimized for PS5 low power mode so that the games can run without heavy alterations. In terms of GPU, we may get to see an RDNA 5 in the device with high quality ray tracing as a benchmark. The console could bring 16GB LPDDR5X-7500 RAM along with storage expandability with two options - M.2 SSD slot and a MicroSD slot. It will have a touchscreen display but other details related to the same have not been revealed yet. Apart from that, the device will be shipping with native support for PS4 for PS5 games which could be a game changer for Sony and help the crack open the handheld console market. Leaks also suggest that the console will have Docking support similar to Nintendo Switch with which the users will be able to connect it with a TV or a monitor.
