Mardaani 3 plot
Senior Superintendent of Police, Shivani Shivaji Roy (Rani Mukerji), is appointed by NIA after Ambassador Sahu’s only daughter Ruhani, is abducted while playing with her caretaker’s daughter Jhimli. It is learnt that Amma (
Mallika Prasad) is responsible for this. She runs a local beggar mafia and kidnaps young girls who are in their pre-puberty stage. Some of the hostages have tested ‘positive’, and they’re killed. Those who tested negative are still under Amma’s trap.
Shivani's allies or enemies?
During the investigation, Shivani is pressurised to prioritise Ruhani, whereas she is concerned for Jhimli too. Amid power pressure and class inequality battle, she meets Fatima (Janki Bodiwala), a new constable who has replaced her mother after her death. She has seen the culprits when they were taking Ruhani to a different location. Fatima helps Shivani in tracking them. During an attack, two of Amma’s men target Ramanujan (
Prajesh Kashyap), an NGO founder who works towards rescuing victims from the beggar mafia.
Threat comes home
While Shivani is at work, Amma reaches her apartment and puts her husband, Dr Bikram Roy’s (Jisshu Sengupta) life at risk. Shivani and Amma have a heated conversation. After that, the former takes her husband to the hospital. At the same time, she gets a lead about Ruhani’s whereabouts. With Fatima and Ramanujan’s help, she attempts to rescue the child. But, she doesn’t make it. Ramanujan, the good guy, is the mastermind behind the racket. Shivani and Fatima fail to recognise the devil hidden beneath the calm demeanour.
What are 'positive' and 'negative'?
The positive and negative diagnosis is connected to cancer. A young girl, who is breathing her final breaths, drops a major hint at Ramanujan’s involvement in the case. Shivani and Fatima trap him and find Ramanujan at Amma’s house. The SSP brutally whacks him, but it doesn’t have any impact on him. Amma and Ramanujan, who is like her son, are arrested with the help of his childhood guardian-cum-caretaker. Due to Fatima’s carelessness, the sole eyewitness commits suicide inside the cell. The senior cops favour Ramanujan and free him from jail. Shivani is suspended. Even then, Shivani continues working on the case.
How does Shivani solve the case?
Shivani seeks Fatima’s help in punishing Ramanujan for his deeds. She wins his confidence and joins him on a business trip to Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is revealed that he has been developing a drug that has different effects on people. While some have tested positive for cancer, others are negative. Ruhani had unfortunately tested positive, so she had to be killed. In Sri Lanka, Ambassador Sahu volunteers to help the cops. Fatima coordinates with Shivani, and she traces Amma. During an encounter, she is dead. To bring the abducted girls safely, they deceive Ramanujan. After the girls are rescued, Shivani tortures him and injects the same drug into his blood, leaving him in a vegetative state.
After solving the case, Shivani’s suspension is revoked, and she is promised the President Medal soon. She urges that class division be erased forever. In spite of weaker villains and a predictable plot,
Mardaani 3 does its job pretty well. It is an important film and socially relevant too.
