Dell Internal Memo Reveals Massive Laptop Price Hike From December 17: Here Is All You Need To Know

It seems the global memory and storage shortage is finally hitting big tech brands hard as Dell is reportedly preparing a major price hike across its commercial laptops and PCs starting next week (December 17). According to an internal list of upcoming changes seen by Business Insider, the biggest jump will be seen in laptops and desktops with higher memory and storage configurations. The document, shared internally on December 9, shows big increases affecting the company’s commercial segment (products sold to enterprises and corporate clients). This category alone brings in nearly 85 per cent of Dell’s annual revenue within its Client Solutions Group (CSG), which handles laptops and PCs. As demand for AI servers and high-performance infrastructure surges worldwide, tech giants are buying up huge quantities of DRAM and NAND. This has pushed up component costs for all major PC makers, including Lenovo and HP.A Dell spokesperson told Business Insider that the company, "like others in the industry, takes targeted pricing action when necessary while maintaining supply continuity and customer value."

What This Means For Buyers

Since DRAM and NAND are the two components hit hardest by global shortages, devices with more RAM and SSD storage will get more expensive. For buyers, the biggest hit will be on higher-spec machines. Dell’s commercial laptops and desktops with 32GB RAM are set to become $130 to $230 more expensive, while top-end 128GB memory configurations will see a massive jump of $520 to $765 per device. A Dell sales employee told Business Insider that customers could see 10 per cent to 30 per cent higher prices depending on their contract. The internal price list also reveal hikes for models running Nvidia’s latest Blackwell GPUs and standalone monitors as well.With tariffs, rising component costs and tighter enterprise budgets already putting pressure on PC sales, these additional hikes may make enterprise upgrades even tougher.
