The Screen Actors Guild Awards, aka SAG Awards, in which actors honour actors, is updating for the new year. It will now be known as the Actor Awards. SAG-AFTRA, which is the body that organises the awards,
made the official announcement and introduced its new logo. Here's why the change was made.
The SAG Awards changes name to Actor Awards
Executive producer Jon Brockett shared that the name change was announced through a SAG-AFTRA board meeting. SAG-AFTRA, which is headed by actor Sean Astin, is a labour union that represents film, television, and radio actors in the US. The 32nd edition of the star-studded ceremony will renew itself as the Actor Awards.Brockett told the BBC, "Since the beginning, our statue has been called The Actor and we're a show that's entirely about actors, so this new name is a perfect next step in the show's evolution."JoBeth Williams, the awards committee chair, added, "Now that our global audience is really growing, people don't always understand what the union name is. When and where to watch the Actor Awards in 2026
On X (formerly Twitter), Netflix posted, "The only awards show exclusively for actors is entering a new era! Introducing the 32nd Annual Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA. Coming March 1, LIVE only on Netflix." In 2023, Netflix took over from TBS and live-streamed the ceremony on their YouTube channel. Since 2024, it has been airing live on its streaming service as part of their multi-year partnership.
In 2025, Timothée Chalamet and Demi Moore were declared Best Actor and Actress in Leading Roles, while Conclave, Shogun and Only Murders In The Building took home the ensemble acting awards.
