For years, WhatsApp users have waited for one thing: usernames. No phone number sharing, no awkward “save my contact first” moments. And while the Meta-owned messaging app has quietly been testing the username system in the background, a new update suggests the feature may go even further than expected. According to WhatsApp tipster WABetaInfo, the platform is now working on letting users choose the same username they already use on Facebook and Instagram. From there, users will be able to reserve their preferred username and if they already use one on Facebook or Instagram, they can try to claim the same one here too. Of course, Meta isn’t handing out usernames blindly.
