In an interview with Gentleman’s Journal, Macaulay said that when Catherine passed away in January, it affected him deeply because it felt too soon. He said, "When Catherine passed away in January, that hit me. That hit me pretty good..." He said he believed there was unfinished emotional business between them and that he felt he owed her a favour. He added that he did not like leaving any "outstanding debt" in relationships.Earlier in January, in his tribute to O'Hara, the actor had expressed that he felt they should have had more time together. He said he wanted to sit next to her and felt that he had heard her but still had many things left to say. Along with an emotional collage of their scenes from Home Alone and their reunion, he penned, "I love you. I’ll see you later."
