Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming film, Kaantha, has faced opposition from M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar’s grandson who claimed the depiction of the character was false. B Thiagarajan approached a court in Chennai
and argued that the film shows his grandfather as a person who lived a life of loose morals and became a pauper, destitute and sought alms and died of indebtedness and penury.
MKT grandson objects to Kaantha
According to Live Law’s report, B Thiagarajan said in court that M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar was a renowned personality in Tamil Nadu and enjoyed a loyal fanbase for his work as an actor and a Carnatic musician. As per the report, the plea stated that his grandfather was a modest, devout, and simple man of great compassion and charitable disposition who remained a teetotaller and non-smoker all his life, contrary to what was shown.ALSO READ: Kaantha Trailer: Dulquer Salmaan's Rise To Super Stardom Is Threatened By His Ego B Thiagarajan further added that his grandfather lived a dignified life with no economic necessity. MKT’s grandson, revealed that the makers of Kaantha were not consulted before starting the film. He also claimed that the makers’ baseless version of MKT's life is projecting an undignified and defamatory version of him. He argued that even if the names are changed, if a prudent person can recall the personality, it would be nothing but tarnishing the image of a person who cannot defend themselves. Thiagarajan’s plea seeks a permanent injunction restraining the makers from releasing, screening, distributing, publishing, streaming, or in any manner exhibiting Kaantha. The plea also aimed to seek a permanent injunction restraining the makers from depicting MKT as a man with loose morals, as such a depiction is false, defamatory, and injurious to the reputation, dignity, and legacy of the late actor.
