Riteish Deshmukh's Raja Shivaji has continued with its historical run at the box office, despite new films entering the competition at theatres. The film, which has Deshmukh - both as a director, and the lead - has set yet another record by becoming the first Marathi film to surpass the Rs 100 crore India Nett Box Office Collection. Based on the life of Shivaji, the film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Bhagyashree and Genelia Deshmuk, among others. The film released across theatres on May 1, and has since then being doing good business, having already become the eighth-highest grossing Indian film of the year.As per a tweet by trade analyst and Industry expert Taran Adarsh, Raja Shivaji entered the Rs 100 crore club
in its fourth week with Rs 70 lakh on Friday, Rs 1.35 crore on Saturday and Rs 1.40 crore on Sunday. The total business of the film on its fourth week is Rs 101.40 crore.
The last week had seen the Riteish Deshmukh film rake in Rs 1.70 crore on Friday, Rs 2.980 crore on Saturday, followed by Rs 3.80 crore on Sunday, Rs 1.25 crore on Monday. While Week 1 saw the film rake in Rs 57.70 crore, teh second week saw it at Rs 27 crore. Week 3 and Week 4 had a cumulative earning of Rs 13.35 crore and Rs 3.45 crore, bringing the total to Rs 101.40 crore.The film has also performed well at the worldwide gross box office and has earned Rs 114.8 crore, becoming the highest-grossing Marathi film ever. Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with Zoom, Bhagyashree who played the role of Shivaji's mother in the film addressed the conversation of their minimal age-gap. "When you get to play a role that you have grown up hearing stories about, there is no question to say no. Besides, Jijau was a young mother. In fact, Santosh Sivan sir called me up to say, 'Sorry, I had to make you look older with camera work, still look so youthful'. Now that is a compliment I will hold close to my heart. After all, he is the maestro cinematographer, Santosh Sivan," the actress had said in her interview.Directed by Riteish Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji is a grand biographical drama that pays tribute to the legendary warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Released by Jio Studios on May 1, 2026, in both Marathi and Hindi, the film generated significant anticipation among audiences. In addition to portraying the lead role, Riteish Deshmukh also helms the project as its director, bringing the inspiring life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to the big screen.
