What is the story about?
While
House of the Dragon Season 2 started a war, viewers didn't get to see much action. When the show returns for its third season on June 21 on HBO and HBO Max, audiences will be right in the thick of it. During a global press conference attended by us, writer and showrunner Ryan Condal laid out the Game of Thrones spinoff's four-season plan and revealed how the series was like a "Shakespearean family tragedy." Condal also reacted to fans' frustrations for waiting two years or more between seasons and spoke about why it takes that long to produce a period fantasy series like House of the Dragon.
Ryan Condal on why House of the Dragon takes so long to make
At the press conference, Ryan Condal shared that when they started the prequel spinoff series, they always had a plan and were going to stick with it. He shared, "We're not going to listen to the noise in between. I realise that this is a four-season show; you have to wait two years in between each chapter, but ultimately this is one story we're telling. To get upset about something midway is to react in the middle of a play; you don't like the turn that the story took in the middle. Well, wait because there's other two acts coming."

He continued, "I get the frustration. It's a long downtime between seasons. It just takes long to make the show. Prep and shooting of the show, and this is after scripts are written, take a year and then it takes seven-eight months to make dragons. So do the math. It's not possible to come out every year. I'm very sorry, but you guys decided to be fans of the show called House of the Dragon." Why House of the Dragon Season 3 feels very different? As this will be the season where Team Black and Team Green are finally going on the battlefield, Condal revealed that while the tone of the show has been pretty solid and steady since the beginning, the third season is much more bloody. The infamousBattle of the Gullet on the seas will finally be seen on viewers' TV screens.
The showrunner stated, "This is a Westeros show. It's a Shakespearean family tragedy. I think the mood of the show probably changes a little bit in season three as things get darker and a bit bleaker. I think there are fits and starts through season one and season two where you think maybe there's a chance that they will lay down arms and maybe find a different way to sort things out. But I think as more and more slights are leveled and more and more loss is experienced on both sides, there is this kind of tit-for-tat brinksmanship that comes into play where people sort of forget what the first slight was."Condal went on to add that the resentment within these characters has been building for a long while now and they are all looking to exact vengeance on the other side. "I think there is a darker mood that you'll continue to see unfold over the rest, not just this season, but going into the final season as well. Inexorability is the term of the season," he concluded. In India, viewers can watch the new season on JioHotstar on June 22. The eight-part series will release a new episode every Monday.
