The year was 2019. I first played Marvel's Spider-Man at a rental console shop for an hour, and the hour felt like that black PS4 controller was my web-slinging machine, and I felt like Peter Parker. That very moment, I knew that Insomniac has nailed it. From starting the game with thrashing Kingpin to crushing the tentacles of Doctor Octopus, the title easily qualifies as one of the best Marvel games one can ever experience. And the journey then moved ahead with me playing the other two from the series as well - Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales and Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Now, coming to the point, I am not going to talk about Spider-Man anymore; instead, we are set to talk about Wolverine and why I think I can trust Insomniac with the same.
With a trailer in hand and a fierce debut of our rugged and wild hero, I am convinced that finally we, all of us Marvel fans, will be able to see a version of Wolverine that is unhinged, brutal, and bloodthirsty.
Insomniac Is In Love With Storytelling
Whether we talk about Ratchet and Clank or we talk about the Spider-Man titles, Insomniac has made its place in storytelling and sits on the table with the industry leaders for sure. If we keep Peter Parker out of the picture, Miles Morales was a pretty new experience for all of us who read the comics and are OG Marvel fans and knew that Miles Morales' story would be a banger (can't help talking about Spider-Man, I guess).Coming to the trailer of Marvel's Wolverine, our hero looks like a menace - more of a walking nuclear bomb unleashing primal animal instinct whenever he smells a threat. When I think of Wolverine, I think of blood, gore, principles, and a wounded hero who is trying to figure out his past while getting punched by the present a dozen times a day. The bloodshed in the trailer was real, the anger issues were real, and Wolverine was rough, as he should be.With the Sony State of Play event to be held in a few days, I am just hoping to see some gameplay elements of Wolverine that will do nothing but strengthen my confidence in Insomniac.
From Web Slinging To Claw Gashing: Insomniac Is Ready To Take A Brutal Path
Spider-Man had a tight, gripping story and some of the best mechanics when it comes to web-slinging ever seen in a Spider-Man game. And the way Wolverine's trailer shows his claws gashing into the glass of the building to control his fall, it is not a statement of smoothness or a beautifully seamless scene; instead, that's how effortlessly Insomniac captures the essence of Wolverine's character - unpredictable, rough, and full of friction. As of now, there is no word on the story officially, and trust me when I say that I am eagerly waiting for the same. I am holding my horses and keeping myself safe from spoilers because I want to explore everything about it only when I get the game downloaded on my console.
Insomniac And Combat Mechanics Are Like Peter Parker And Miles Morales: They Fuel Each Other
Trusting Insomniac is not just about the vibe but about the elements that I have seen in the past titles. Spider-Man felt smooth. I knew what I was going to do, I knew the repercussions, I knew the villains were merciless. One thing that I never knew was how time passed while playing it. And that's exactly what I am expecting from Wolverine. But this time, things will be more on the brutal side than the sophisticated one. The way Insomniac did justice to Spider-Man's web-slinging and those jaw-cracking punches, I am expecting nothing less than a gory spectacle when I unleash those claws on the ops in Wolverine.
Wrapping Up
Wolverine is no doubt a game that could be a make-or-break situation for any studio. Get the combat wrong, and the community will mock you; get the character's essence wrong, and the fans will annihilate you digitally; and by any chance, if you get the story wrong, God bless you and keep you safe from the rulers of Reddit, Discord, and X. With that much at stake, Insomniac is the last studio on this planet that is going to mess things up.
