According to latest reports, Rajinikanth requested certain changes in the script, and Cibi Chakravarthy is currently working on those revisions. At the same time, reports mentioned that Ashwath Marimuthu is being considered as an option.
Ashwath Marimuthu narrated a story to Rajinikanth for a potential project, which the superstar reportedly appreciated. Announced in January 2026, the upcoming film, tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, has created huge excitement among fans, as it brings together two legends of Tamil cinema, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
About Sundar C's Exit From Thalaivar 173
Initially, director Sundar C was officially announced to direct the film. However, he later stepped away from the project citing "unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances." Sundar C last collaborated successfully on Arunachalam (1997). Following this, Cibi Chakravarthy, who delivered the hit film Don, was officially announced as the new director. While cast and plot details are yet to be revealed, rumours suggest that Sai Pallavi and Kathir are in early talks to join the team. However, an official update is awaited. Meanwhile, Anirudh Ravichander will compose the music for the film.
Rajinikanth, who last starred in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, is busy working on Jailer 2, a sequel to his hit 2023 film with Nelson Dilipkumar. Kamal Haasan, on the other hand, last starred in Mani Ratnam's Thug Life and is working on the directorial debut of the stunt direction duo Anbariv, KH 237 Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth have also announced that they are set for a major, long-awaited reunion in a new Tamil film, tentatively titled KH x RK, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.
