layered themes. He revealed that he viewed the story through the lens of a “liberal Muslim” and a “secular Indian.” Emraan Hashmi Sees Haq Through 'Lens Of Liberal Muslim, Secular Indian'In an exclusive conversation with Times Now Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar, he was asked whether it was difficult for him, as a Muslim, to say yes to the film. He responded, "In this film, I had to look through two lenses. I think there was a two-pronged approach. I see it on an intuitive level — whenever I read a script, if I like the story and the character, that’s a given. But here, I had to view it through another lens — through the lens of a Muslim."The actor continued, "You can generalise it too — people from any community or generation will be able to connect with it. But I think it was very important because it’s a landmark case from that time, involving two people from this community. I only needed to understand what the director’s and writer’s viewpoints were. Was it biased? The answer is no. It’s neutral and presents a very balanced perspective on the case."Emraan, who is a "proud feminist," believes Haq simply holds up a mirror to society and shows both sides of the truth. He added, "That balanced outlook made me feel reassured. Because I loved my character, and hers. I loved the nuance, especially where their love story faces conflict. Finally, there’s that thrilling courtroom drama in the end, which is spectacular. So for me, it was a winner on paper, and I instantly knew I had to be part of this film."

When asked if he ever thought about how the Muslim community might perceive him for doing a film based on such a sensitive case, Emraan replied, “I see this film through the lens of a liberal Muslim and a secular Indian.”He credited his multicultural upbringing, sharing that his Hindu wife and Christian mother’s backgrounds helped him view the story from a “neutral lens.”Haq, also starring Yami Gautam, hits the screens on November 7.
