Legendary
singer Asha Bhosle was laid to rest this evening (April 13) at Shivaji Park Crematorium, Dadar West, Mumbai. She passed away on April 12 at 92 due to multiple organ failure. Asha ji had been hospitalised at Breach Candy Hospital and breathed her last there. Asha’s death has indeed left the entire nation heartbroken. Actress Padmini Kolhapure, who is a niece of Asha Bhosle, is devastated after the death of her dear atya (father’s sister). In a recent interview, Padmini said that she will remain forever grateful to Asha Tai because of her; she made her debut in Bollywood.
Padmini Kolhapure Talks About Asha Bhosle
For the unversed, Asha Bhosle made her acting debut at 70 with the film, Mai (2013). She shared screen space with Padmini Kolhapure in the film. It has to be noted that Padmini’s father, the late Pandharinath Kolhapure, was a first cousin of Bhosle and her sister, the late Lata Mangeshkar. In an interview with Hindustan Times, the Prem Rog actress confessed that she films because of Asha Bhosle. She revealed, “She introduced me to (late actor) Dev Anand, because of which I landed my debut, Ishk Ishk Ishk (1974). I called her Asha atya [father’s sister in Marathi]. As a child, I remember her coming home every Diwali with a bag full of gifts.”
While speaking about Bhosle’s decision to act in Mai, Padmini recalled that Asha Tai said yes to doing a film only when she got to know about her niece’s casting. The Phata Poster Nikla Hero star also mentioned some of her favourite songs sung by Asha Bhosle for her in movies.

A Special Gift From Asha Atya
Padmini Kolhapure also recalled a special gift received from Asha Bhosle on her last birthday. The actress said that the legendary singer gifted her and Poonam Dhillon saris from her personal collection. Coming back to Asha Bhosle, the singer’s funeral was held at Shivaji Park, Mumbai. Several celebrities paid their last tributes to the Queen of Indipop at her residence in Lower Parel and Shivaji Park. Celebs like Tabu, Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Ranveer Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Anu Malik, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Javed Ali, Shabana Azmi, Vidya Balan, Urmila Matondkar and others came to see Asha Bhosle for the last time.
