Using two SIM cards on a smartphone is very common in India. Many users keep one number for work and another for personal use or combine networks like Jio and Airtel for better coverage. But despite how popular dual-SIM phones are, Android still does not let you set different ringtones for each SIM. That, however, may finally change soon.According to recent report, Google is working on a feature that could allow users to set separate ringtones to each SIM card on an Android phone. This small but useful upgrade has been spotted by Android Authority in the latest Android Canary build (an early testing version of the OS where new features often appear before a wider rollout)."The ability to set a different ringtone for each of your SIMs is already
a feature offered by certain manufacturers like Motorola but Android has lacked similar support at the system level. But with this week’s release of Android Canary 2604, we’ve got our first hint of it on the way," Android Authority mentioned in its report. While the feature is not live yet, the report suggests that users will be able to set 'unique' and 'specific' ringtones for each SIM. This should work for both physical SIM cards and eSIMs.Google I/O 2026 Keynote Date, Time In India, USA, Dubai, How To Watch Live, What To Expect Next Month
At the moment, there is no confirmation on when this feature will officially roll out. Since it has only appeared in an early test build, it could take time before it reaches stable Android versions. If development moves quickly, it may even arrive with Android 17 but that is still uncertain. For millions of dual-SIM users, especially in India, this could be a very practical improvement. It may seem like a small change, but it can make daily phone usage much more convenient.
