Productivity is often compromised in today’s fast-paced environment. We may have clear goals we want to achieve, yet the biggest barrier is sometimes our own procrastination. To overcome this and make my day more productive, I asked ChatGPT to “make me more productive.” Here’s what it said.1. Start With Structure, Not Motivation-Productivity improves when actions are pre-decided. Relying on motivation creates inconsistency.-Fix start and end times for work-Decide task order in advance-Eliminate decision-making during execution2. Use Time Blocking (Non-Negotiable Blocks)Divide your day into clear blocks and assign one type of task per block.Example framework (customise timings as needed):Block 1: Deep work (focus-heavy tasks)Block 2: Administrative
/ coordination tasksBlock 3: Learning or skill developmentBlock 4: Review & planningRules:No multitasking within a blockNo switching tasks mid-blockOne block = one mental modeAlso Read: I Asked ChatGPT How To Save Rs 10,000 A Month, Here’s The Strategy3. Apply the 80/20 Task FilterEvery day, identify:20% of tasks that deliver 80% of resultsExecute these first.Low-impact tasks should never be done during high-energy hours.4. Control Inputs RuthlesslyProductivity drops due to uncontrolled inputs, not workload.Check messages/emails at fixed intervals onlyDisable non-essential notificationsConsume information only if it supports current tasks5. Work in Focus CyclesUse short, intense work cycles to maintain mental clarity.45–50 minutes focused work5–10 minutes breakAfter 3 cycles, take a longer breakDuring focus cycles:Phone out of reachSingle tab openNo background media6. End Every Day With a ResetA productive day ends with preparation for the next one.List top 3 priorities for tomorrow Clear workspaceClose open loopsThis reduces cognitive load the next morning.7. Measure Output, Not BusynessTrack:Tasks completedOutcomes achievedIgnore:Hours workedNumber of messages sentPerceived effort8. Weekly Review (Mandatory)Once a week:Identify what caused distractionRemove one friction pointImprove one system, not your willpowerCore Principle-Productivity is the result of systems, not effort.-Design your environment so the right action becomes the default action. The response that ChatGPT gave me is honestly pretty much practical and doable. I like how it has suggested an 80/20 task filter to keep me goal-focused. It asked me to block all my distractions and focus on the task, which will help me in the end results. Its work focus cycle also gave me enough time to stay motivated and take breaks in between to avoid brain fog.
