Taking to their respective social media platforms, they officially announced that Varanasi will hit theatres worldwide on Wednesday, April 7, 2027, thus ending the ongoing chatter and speculations. The announcement comes a day after surprise hoardings came up in the holy city of Varanasi with the date - April 7, 2027 - mentioned on them. Discussions have already begun as to why Rajamouli and team did not opt for a big holiday for the release of their ambitious and big budget globetrotting film. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the significance of the official Varanasi release date. He highlighted that two major festivals - Ugadi and Gudi Padwa - are falling on Wednesday, April 7, thus making the date both culturally important and commercially viable. Not just this, the following week will see auspicious occasions - Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 and Ram Navami on April 25. This means that Varanasi will enjoy an extended festive period, which could prove to be a masterstroke when its comes to box office collection. Meanwhile, the makers also unveiled a new poster while announcing the release date, however, it did not feature Mahesh Babu or any other actor. Varanasi also stars Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran in pivotal roles and is currently being filmed.
All Varanasi Assets Released So Far
SS Rajamouli began the marketing campaign by unveiled Prithviraj Sukumaran's first look as Kumbha, the wheelchair-bound, technologically advanced villain of Varanasi. The next poster introduced Priyanka Chopra in a yellow saree. She plays Mandakini in the film. Then came the asset which broke the internet - Mahesh Babu as Kumbha. The three character posters were followed up with the official title announcement teaser, giving a glimpse of the grand world of Varanasi.
Varanasi is the very first collaboration between Rajamouli and Mahesh. The film is expected to establish the Sarkaru Vaari Paata actor as a pan-India star. In terms of box office, Varanasi is expected to shatter all existing records and set a new benchmark in Indian cinema.
