Dhawan is returning to direction after six years with Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. It reunites him with his son, Varun Dhawan. The romantic comedy is scheduled for a May 2026 release. Ahead of the release, the makers unveiled a teaser featuring Varun with Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. The one-minute and seven-second promo included two AI-generated babies, who were used to introduce the plot. As the internet reacted adversely to the AI-generated portions of the teaser, director David has finally broken his silence. In an interview, Dhawan responded to the ongoing debate around the clip featuring the babies.

Talking to ANI in Mumbai, David clarified that the
AI-generated babies were only for promotional purposes and don’t feature in the theatrical version. “It is just a tease. Teaser ka matlab kya hai? Kuch alag karne ke liye banake dekha humne,” said the veteran filmmaker. Amid reports of
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai being a remake of Govinda’s
Sandwich, Dhawan shared that the subject and the story of the film are different from what was shown in the teaser.

The teaser of
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai opens with the AI-generated babies introducing Varun as Jassi, Mrunal as Baani and Pooja as Preet. As shown in the clip, their father is the same. The internet was quickly reminded of
Govinda, Raveena Tandon and Mahima Chaudhry’s Sandwich, also directed by David. The filmmaker has successfully remade classics in the past. But, the atmosphere around remakes isn’t positive any longer. According to David, the plot of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai isn’t what was shown in the teaser.

Toxic, the makers pushed it to mid-June. Now, it will clash with Ananya Panday and Lakshya’s romantic drama,
Chand Mera Dil.
