After
making her acting debut with I Want To Talk, Ahilya is ready to enter the Telugu film industry. The actress played the role of Abhishek Bachchan's daughter in her first-ever movie. She was appreciated for her performance in the Shoojit Sircar directorial. Talking about her Telugu debut, the actress will be seen in Sing Geetham. Helmed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, the musical is all set to release on June 11. Ahead of that, Zoom exclusively interacted with Ahilya, who got candid about her new film, objectification of women in South films, and more.
Ahilya on objectification of women in South films
Ahilya was asked if directors, writers and producers need to rethink the portrayal of women in film. To this, the Sing Geetham actress said, "I think what's important is that for every writer to have like a nice balance of people who are writing. So I think when a script is written by people for a general audience, then it means that there need to be women, men, young women, young men, older women, like people of all ages in a writing room so that you can write something that feels universal."
Ahilya added that such characters comes across realistic to audience because people who have written them also experienced some of the things. "A portrayal is also about that. People are writing for the box office and these kinds of things as well. There is a formula, unfortunately, for making ticket sales. If audiences are asking for more story-driven plots, more layers in character, then filmmakers should and will respond to that," she added.
Having said that, the actress believes that there are films which are subtle and have a brilliant storytelling. In her opinion, such movies don't rely on any kind if cinematic tactics of any kind. She further mentioned, "Hopefully, filmmakers respond to the stuff the audience is asking because the audience is a lot more susceptible and receptive than sometimes people give the audience credit for. They want more. So, we should be able to give them more."
