Peddi Worldwide Box Office Collection Day 2: Ram Charan Film Hits Rs 150 Crore Amid Backlash Over Janhvi Kapoor’s Role

Charan’s sports drama Peddi continues its box office run with mixed response after a blockbuster opening. While the film impressed with a strong Day 1 start, collections dipped on Day 2, even as it crossed a big worldwide milestone of Rs 150 crore. The film, directed by Buchi Babu Sana and co-starring Janhvi Kapoor, has also landed in controversy over its portrayal of the female lead. Despite criticism, the sports drama remains strong nearing Rs 100 crore domestic net mark within just two days of release.

Peddi Box Office Day 2 Sees Sharp Drop

Peddi witnessed a slowdown on its second day after a good opening. According to Sacnilk estimates, the film collected Rs 26.90 crore net on Day 2, marking a 47.3 percent drop from its Day 1 earnings of Rs 51.00 crore. The collection came from 10,113 shows nationwide. Even with the decline in domestic collections, Peddi continues to do well worldwide. The film’s total India net stands at Rs 96.40 crore, while the India gross has reached Rs 114.49 crore. Overseas regions contributed Rs 8.00 crore on Day 2, taking the international gross to Rs 36.00 crore. With this, the worldwide total has climbed to Rs 150.49 crore.

The Telugu version continues to dominate the film’s performance. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana together contributed Rs 25.00 crore gross on Day 2 alone. Other regions showed moderate support, with Karnataka collecting Rs 3.23 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs 70 lakh, Kerala Rs 7 lakh, and the rest of India adding Rs 3.00 crore. The Telugu version recorded an overall occupancy of 48.81 percent. Night shows performed the best at 60.15 percent, while morning shows remained lower at 29.85 percent. Kannada occupancy stood at 17.04 percent overall, while Tamil registered 19.80 percent, with night shows performing relatively better.

Controversy Over Janhvi Kapoor’s Role

Set in rural Andhra Pradesh during the 1980s, Peddi follows a villager who uses sports to uplift his community. However, the film has sparked backlash over Janhvi Kapoor’s role. Although the film was promoted as a family entertainer and inspirational sports drama, its portrayal of the female lead has sparked strong online criticism.

One scene shows Ram Charan’s character kissing her without consent, leaving her in tears. Another sequence is said to depict goons attempting to undress the actress. In addition to these scenes, which social media users are slamming, netizens have also raised concerns over repeated close-up shots of Janhvi Kapoor’s body and what they feel is an character that is not well written.
