Fatherhood
has brought a whole new perspective to Vicky Kaushal's life. The actor, who recently welcomed his son Vihaan with wife Katrina Kaif, has opened up about the emotional changes that came with becoming a parent. While the actor took six weeks of paternity leave to spend time with his family, returning to work proved to be far more difficult than he expected. Speaking candidly about his journey into parenthood, Vicky revealed that he immediately missed his son after resuming work and admitted that becoming a father has introduced him to emotions he had never experienced before.
Vicky Kaushal had difficulty going back to work after Vihaan's birth
In a recent conversation with
The Nod, Vicky reflected on the moment he returned to work after spending six weeks at home with Katrina Kaif and their
newborn son. The actor admitted that leaving his family behind and stepping back onto a film set was emotionally challenging. "My heart sank. It was hard," Vicky said, recalling his first day back at work after paternity leave.
Despite spending every day with Vihaan during those initial weeks, the actor revealed that he still felt he could never get enough time with his son. According to Vicky, fatherhood continues to surprise him with new emotions almost every day because being a parent is still 'new' to him. The actor also said he now understands why parents often talk about how quickly children grow up. "I understand now when others would say, 'Yaar, bacha kitna jaldi bada ho raha hai.' And I would think, 'What are you talking about? Your child is still a year old.' Now I get it," he added.Even though Vihaan is only seven months old, Vicky already has a clear idea about the values he wants to pass on to his son. The actor believes children learn more from observing their parents than from listening to their advice. "It occurs to me at the most random moments that that is now my responsibility towards my son. He is going to learn by observing how his parents think, talk, and behave," Vicky said. The actor added that he wants to lead by example rather than rely solely on words.
Vicky has newfound respect for his parents
Fatherhood has also deepened Vicky's appreciation for his own parents and the sacrifices they made while raising him. Looking back on his childhood, the actor said he now understands many of the lessons his parents tried to teach him. "I understand so many things that they were right about," he shared. Vicky acknowledged that while his family was not financially affluent, his parents worked hard to ensure he grew up with the right values. The actor credited his upbringing for helping shape the person he is today.
On the work front, Vicky was last seen in
Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utekar and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna. It was a big hit. He is currently busy shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's highly anticipated film
Love and War. The project reunites him with Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.
