Kapoor's ex-husband and late businessman Sunjay Kapur's estate case recently saw a major development. On April 27, the Supreme Court of India issued a notice, responding to a plea filed by Kapur's 80-year-old mother,Rani Kapur. This was regarding the estate battle between Rani, Sunjay's kids and his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur. The SC sought responses from Priya and 22 others. At the same time, it urged Rani Kapur to opt for mediation with his late son's widow in the battle. Now, the 80-year-old has reacted to the same.
Rani Kapur on Supreme Court's observations
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Rani Kapur said she welcomes the Supreme Court's observations and its encouragement of a peaceful resolution. She mentioned that at this stage in her life, she only seeks truth, dignity and the protection of what is rightfully hers and her family's.
Kapur stated that she is ready to participate in fair and transparent mediation process and trust that the court would ensure justice on the merits. "This has never been about conflict. It is about restoring fairness, preserving a family legacy, and ensuring that no one is deprived through deception or misuse of trust," she said.For the unversed, a bench of justices JB Pardiwala and Vijay Bishnoi told Rani Kapur's lawyer, "Why are you all fighting? You are 80. This is not the age for your client to fight." The SC further suggested mediation once and for all. That said, the court has kept its doors open for hearing the matter only if the things are not resolved through mediation.

It all began with late
Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, filing a suit challenging the creation of the Rani Kapur Family Trust. The 80-year-old claimed that the trust was formed in such a way that she was deprived of control over estate and interests in the Sona group. She even alleged after she suffered a stroke in 2017, decisions were taken without her consent. And this lead to transfer of assets.
That said, things intensified after Sunjay's death and multiple claims surfaced over control of family wealth and business operations. Talking about the businessman, he passed away on June 12, 2025. He was 53. Sunjay died after he collapsed while playing polo. It was initially reported that Kapur swallowed a bee, which caused anaphylactic shock. Keep following this space for more updates!
