Dakota Fanning on why she said yes to Sarah Snook starrer All Her Fault
At a global press conference, the
Ripley star shared that she was already intrigued by the show's mystery, but it was her character and the bonds she makes that clinched it for her. She stated, "What hooked me most was my character's relationship with Sarah's character. And that first scene in the bathroom, of them meeting, that was the first scene that we actually filmed. It was both of our first days. And seeing that dynamic. And then my big question, because I think I read the first three or four scripts and then spoke with Megan [Gallagher], the showrunner, and Minkie [Spiro], who directed the first four. And my first question was, I just wanted to know where their relationship was going. Because I was going to be so disappointed if it was going to go the way of a problem. Like seeing the trope of these women being at each other's throats and a sinister vibe to their relationship eventually coming to pass."
Snook and Fanning's first scene on the show involved their characters meeting in the bathroom at their sons' school, wearing the same dress, and instantly becoming friends. The actress was happy to see that the show built on that initial scene. She continued, "They were going to just become more and more of a support to each other and have this very genuine friendship. And I felt like that was the more unexpected route for these two characters to go, whereas I think we see a lot of stories that pit women against one another."

And then I just was a really big fan of Sarah's and was like, 'I would love to get to work with her and get to have a lot of scenes with her and get to know her.' I'd only heard such wonderful things, and they were all, of course, true. And I love being a part of a big cast and ensemble of people. I had never met anyone in this cast before, so getting to know them... Sometimes it's just something like, working with Sarah Snook sounds fun."
Dakota Fanning on playing a young mother
Her character, Jenny, also has a little boy slightly older than Marissa's Milo, and she too is a working mother. According to Fanning, she wanted to get right the complex feelings that mothers hold when they sometimes choose work over their children. "I do think that she does represent a woman today and trying to work and feeling guilty when you're working and then feeling guilty when you're not working and wanting to be a good example to your child of showing them a mom who's out there doing what she loves and being fulfilled, but then not being fulfilled and then just feeling guilty and like, "Oh my God," and just never feeling like you have it right. So I think that that's sort of what she represents to me and what I hope she represents to other people," the actress concluded.
