In the 2005 film Waqt: The Race Against Time, Shefali Shah plays the wife of actor Amitabh Bachchan and mother of Akshay Kumar. The latter is six years older than her. The actress, who now leads series
such as Delhi Crime and Human, shared that she made a mistake by taking on a mother's role so early in her career. Speaking to Times Now Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar, Shefali revealed how she had to really wait for a good role to come along.
Shefali Shah reveals going against husband's advice on Waqt role
Shefali's husband, Vipul Amrutlal Shah, was the director of the film
Waqt, but he advised her not to take up the part. In an exclusive interview with
Times Now, the actress shared, "[My] husband told me, don't do it. Amitji suggested that why don't you take Shefali for this and then he was like, 'I don't think she'll fit it.' One day, I put powder in my hair to say, see, I can look older and mature. He was like, Do not do this. But I was like, no, no, I want to do it. Good, [I] dug my own grave."

So every part that came, now that I look back, I don't have a very long resume, but I have a very strong resume. And I'm so proud of being part of all those films. Maybe one or two where I felt nahin karna chahiye tha, but otherwise you do a Gandhi My Father, The Last Lear, and there is Once Again, Three of Us, all of it. And it just keeps getting better. The kind of work that's offered. Every time a project came, I was all up and about, like this is it, and then phir wohi." In recent years, Shefali has been lauded for her performances in films such as
Jalsa (2022),
Darlings (2022), and
Three of Us (2023). She reprises her role as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi in the award-winning Netflix series
Delhi Crime Season 3.
