Already
renewed for a third season, Fallout reunited some characters in Season 2 and set others off on new quests. But most importantly, it revealed some big pieces in the puzzle in the past as to why the bombs were set off in the first place leading to a nuclear holocaust in 2077 and its traumatic aftermath in the US. The new season is set 200 years in the future, where Hollywood actor Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins), now turned in The Ghoul, has teamed up with Vault Dweller Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) to take her to New Vegas. On the sidelines, Brotherhood of Steel squire Maximus (Aaron Moten) has been trying to make his way to Lucy. What happens next? Warning: Spoilers ahead!
What happens to Lucy MacLean?
After the events of the Season 1 finale, Lucy is out to
find her father Hank MacLean (Kyle MacLachlan capture him and bring him back to justice in Vault 33. The father-daughter duo have an awkward reunion at Robert House's (Justin Theroux) Lucky 38 casino after Hank blackmails The Ghoul to deliver her to him. Once she is in his company, Lucy discovers he has been working on developing a mind-control chip for Vault-Tec investors, The Enclave. Once implanted on a subject's neck, the chip brainwashes the person into a meek, controllable minion. Hank tries to use the chip on the stubborn Lucy, but the Ghoul intervenes, and Lucy turns the tables on her father.
However, doing the right thing has come at a cost; by saving others from being implanted by a chip, Lucy might have allowed a war to start brewing in The Wasteland between two dangerous factions, Caesar's Legion and the New California Republic (NCP). In the finale, she reunites with Maximus and awaits the looming war.
What happens to Maximus?
In the seventh episode, Thaddeus (Johnny Pemberton) and Maximus join forces with the Ghoul to go to Vegas to find Lucy. Maximus gives the Ghoul the cold fusion diode, stolen from the Brotherhood, which he uses as leverage to find his family. Wearing the Brotherhood of Steel armour again, Maximus suits up to fight the Deathclaws guarding the strip so The Ghoul could go through to find Lucy and Mr House. During the battle, Maximus takes a beating and luckily gets help from the NCR army, who arrive to save the day. While the Legion, now led by a new Caesar (Macaulay Culkin), is marching over to Vegas, at least he has Lucy by his side to figure out the next course of action.
What happens to The Ghoul?
Since the beginning of the season, The Ghoul has been on the hunt for the vault that contains his family. He has been searching for his wife, Barb (Frances Turner), and daughter, Janey (Teagan Meredith), who were sent to the secret management vault before the nuclear war. He finally arrives at their cryogenic pods and finds them empty. A postcard from Barb states, "Colorado was a good idea." In the end, The Ghoul is headed to Colorado to find Barb and Janey.
In the past, Cooper Howard tried to prevent Mr House (Justin Theroux) from getting cold fusion. But he ended up handing the weapon to a much more dangerous person, the President of the United States. While it is still unclear who the president was working with, it is clear that House was not dropping the bombs; Vault-Tec was, in order to sell their products. It is ironic then that after 200 years, The Ghoul gives Mr House cold fusion after all to bring him back to life. And in the past, Cooper Howard was arrested for “un-American activities.”
Other character endings in Fallout Season 2 finale
After being brought back to life by The Ghoul, Mr House revealed that the Enclave, which Hank MacLean works for, was the true villain. And the show is not done with House yet. After Lucy and Maximus enter the Lucky 38 casino, House's face flashes on the screen. Now that he has cold fusion again, he might fashion a body for himself in Season 3.Overseer Steph (Annabel O'Hagan) of Vault 33 was exposed by fiance Chet (Dave Register), who told the rest of the residents of her disposing of Woody (Zach Cherry) and her secret identity as a Canadian. She hides in her chambers and contacts the Enclave and tells them to initiate Phase 2. Another big reveal in the past finds that Steph is actually Hank's wife.
Lucy's brother Norm (Moises Arias) finally makes it out of the Vault to the surface but he finds the Wasteland too dangerous. While trying to find Lucy and his father Hank, he enters an old Vault-Tec headquarters where the rest of the employees, working for Bud, are enraged that Norm lied to them. The group is ambushed by a swarm of mutated cockroaches and doesn't survive. Norm survives and tries to help his only ally, Claudia (Rachel Marsh), get back to Vault 33. He's going to find it in chaos. When Season 3 rolls around, things are going to be uncertain. Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
