Elon Musk always stays in the headlines for either his remarks or his posts on X. And now, the X CEO has again made it to the limelight by claiming that he will start selling humanoid robots in a couple
of years. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Musk said that Tesla may be selling a humanoid robot, Optimus, by 2027. For those who are unaware, Musk has been mentioning Optimus and its capabilities since 2021 and has said that the product will change the global economy.Multiple reports related to the same suggest that Tesla is still working to get past the technical hurdles that come with Optimus and its operational challenges. Furthermore, Optimus is already facing a lot of competition from the Chinese market as a firm from there, Unitree Robotics, shipped more than 5500 full-body humanoid robots in 2025. According to the South China Morning Post report related to the same, Tesla, Figure AI, and Agility Robotics were able to ship only 150 units each. A Counterpoint research in the matter suggested that around 16,000 humanoid robots were deployed globally, out of which China controlled more than 80 percent of the total.
