Set in 2014 in Chennai, the film follows Praveen, a carefree youngster who struggles with academics despite his mother’s aspirations for him to become an IAS officer. GV Prakash Kumar shared that he chose to work on Youth without taking a salary because of his close friendship with Karunas, who had earlier acted in his film Darling. He also spoke about the kindness of Karunas and his wife Grace, noting that his affection and respect for them motivated his decision. For him, personal relationships in the film industry sometimes matter more than financial gain.
