in April, Nitesh Tiwari unveiled Ranbir Kapoor’s look as Rama in the upcoming mythological film, Ramayana. The teaser, titled Rama, faced mixed reactions on the internet. With Ranbir stepping in as the revered God from Hindu mythology, people had their ways of expressing sentiments. Amid the mixed response to the casting, Addinath M Kothare, who will be seen as Bharat in Ramayana, defended his co-star. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, the renowned actor lauded Ranbir and called him one of the most honest performers that Indian cinema has presently.

Ramayana, scheduled to release on Diwali this year, also stars
Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. According to reports, the film will also feature Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Arun Govil as Dashrath; Kajal Aggarwal will portray Mandodari, while Rakul Preet Singh takes on the role of Shurpanakha. The cast further includes Amitabh Bachchan as Jatayu and narrator of the film, Vivek Oberoi as Vidyut Jihva, Suhail Nayyar as Sugriva and Kunal Kapoor as Indra.
Ramayana is a two-part franchise. The first is releasing on Diwali this year and the other is scheduled for a 2027 release. As revealed by the co-producer, Namit Malhotra, the combined budget of the film series is approximately USD 500 million, or around Rs 4,000 crore. The exact budget allocation hasn’t been revealed.
