has announced his film reunion with legendary director Adoor Gopalakrishnan after 32 years much to the excitement of fans. The collaboration is especially significant as Adoor Gopalakrishnan was the director behind Mammootty’s first National Film Award–winning performance. The project was officially announced by Mammootty’s production banner on Instagram, along with the film’s title scheduled to be revealed on Friday, January 23, with a formal pooja ceremony. Earlier, Adoor Gopalakrishnan had spoken about the collaboration in an interview, stating that Mammootty was his natural choice for the film.

Taking to social media, Mammootty's son actor Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer films posted "An era is unfolding once again. After 32 years, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Mammootty together." In an earlier interview with Manorama News, Adoor confirmed the collaboration and spoke about why Mammootty was his first choice.
“Mammootty himself will play the lead role. The casting for the remaining characters is currently underway. As the scripting was going on, only Mammootty’s face came to my mind for the central character. I felt that he would be the perfect person for the role. This will be the fourth time he plays the male lead in one of my films. I’ve never worked with any other lead actor that many times,” the filmmaker said.

The director's association with
Mammootty began in 1987 with Anantaram, a psychological drama that featured Ashokan, and Shobana in key roles and is still regarded as one of Adoor’s most celebrated works. Their second collaboration came in
1990 with Mathilukal, an adaptation of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer’s celebrated novel. Mammootty’s nuanced performance earned him
his first National Film Award for Best Actor.
In 1994, the duo reunited for Vidheyan, where Mammootty delivered one of his most gripping performances as the ruthless landlord Bhaskara Pattelar. Now, 32 years after Vidheyan, their reunion has generated immense curiosity and expectations. It is reported that Nayanthara, will be seen playing a crucial role in the film.
