The
Marvel multiverse is giving us two ways to enjoy Spider-Man in 2026. The first project, Spider-Noir, which is out now on Amazon Prime Video, features Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, a private investigator in 1930s New York who is also hiding his real identity as the Spider. Meanwhile, in July 2026, Tom Holland will return as Peter Parker, your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man for the fourth film Brand New Day. Both versions of the iconic character don't have much in common besides fighting crime as a webslinger and protecting New York. But interestingly, both projects also have a character named Lonnie Lincoln, aka Tombstone. Find out more about both characters below.
Spider-Noir's Lonnie Lincoln aka Tombstone
In the new Marvel and Sony co-production, Reilly (Cage) comes across several super-powered individuals in New York. The series links these men to Reilly's own past as a soldier in World War I. He was part of a troop of men who stumbled upon a group of men in a French village who were experimented on by the Nazis. Reilly helps free these men, including Flint Marko (Jack Huston), Lonnie Lincoln (Abraham Popoola), Jimmy Addison (Jack Mikesell) and Dirk Leyden (Andrew Lewis Caldwell). In the bargain, while freeing others from the facility, he is bitten by a half-man and half-spider who gives him abilities that lead to him becoming the Spider.
As the
Spider tries to protect New York from the Irish crime boss Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson) and his superpowered goons who are also known as Sandman (Marko), Tombstone (Lincoln), and Megawatt (Leyden). In the show, Reilly manages to get his hands on an antidote, which he tries first on Lonnie. Luckily, it works and the Tombstone's powers of superstrength vanish. Lonnie leaves New York to take his mother to Niagara Falls. It is unclear if the character will return should the show be picked up for a second season.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Tombstone
There will be a character called Tombstone in the upcoming new Spider-Man adventure directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. In an interesting coincidence, like Nicolas Cage, the actor who plays Tombstone, Marvin Jones III, also voiced the character in the animated trilogy featuring Miles Morales as Spider-Man. Jones will reprise his role from
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) in
Brand New Day and next year's
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The trailers of
Brand New Day have kept Jones' character hidden for now. Tombstone, whose real name is Lonnie Lincoln, is a mob boss who has albinism. Moreover, his special powers include near-indestructible skin and superhuman strength. He shares these abilities with Spider-Noir's Lonnie Lincoln. But if there are any other similarities, fans will have to wait until the movie releases on July 31, 2026. There is one more version of Lonnie Lincoln. He is voiced by Eugene Byrd for the animated series
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. This Lonnie is Peter Parker's classmate and seems like an ordinary student. But like the comics, he is set up to become the Tombstone, one of Spider-Man's foes. In every universe, Tombstone and Spider-Man go up against one another; only the methods remain slightly different.
