Rasika Dugal 'Wants To Be A Mother': Hurts My Heart To See Young Girls... - EXCLUSIVE
Times Now
In an exclusive conversation with Zoom, actress Rasika Dugal opened up about the persistent safety issues women face, how public spaces still feel restrictive for them, and the emotional impact of witnessing
young girls carry apologetic body language. The actress also expressed her deep desire to nurture change as a mother.
“Our Conversations About Women’s Safety Are Still So Basic”
Speaking to Zoom about how little has changed over the years, Rasika said, “After so many years also our conversation around women and about their safety is so basic, it is just dealing with can we get from point A to point B when we have to, and sometimes that is also not possible.”The actress reflected on the daily challenges women face simply moving through public spaces, highlighting how these concerns continue to dominate their lives despite social progress.
“There’s a Constant Negotiation for Very Simple Things”
Rasika further elaborated on the struggles of safety and mobility that women face, recalling her college days in Delhi. She said, “If I have to walk to my PG accommodation to LSR in Delhi because I’ve to go to college, how will I go? Will you come with me, it’s 7 pm, the Frank Anthony Public School is closed, another side is a drain, how will we go alone, will you come with me?”She continued, “There’s a constant negotiation and navigation for very simple things. What about something that men take very for granted, which is just hanging out? There is a concept, you look at women in public space, they use it functionally. Somebody will come, pick up a packet of food, go home and sit on the train and eat it. Men will loiter because they feel they own that place, and we are not even invited to that, even after all these years.”

Rasika Dugal Feels Hurt Seeing Young Girls’ Apologetic Body Language
Sharing a heartfelt observation, Rasika said, “It really hurts my heart to see young girls and their body languages, it just breaks my heart. It is so apologetic most of the time. Those are the times when I really want to be a mother and wish I can create an opportunity for someone to live life differently, where you don’t have to apologise for just being and don’t have to navigate every simple thing in your life.”
