He who becomes first Korean film director to receive this honour, joined a select group of Koreans who have received the Commandeur distinction. Previous honorees include Kim Jeong-Ok, former president of the Korean Culture and Arts Foundation; conductor Chung Myung-Whun and internationally renowned soprano Sumi Jo.
