Patriotism finds a new language with Border 2. It is unapologetic, unabashed and an unconditional tribute to the Indian Armed Forces. Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, along with Mona
Singh, Medha Rana, Sonam Bajwa and Anya Singh, bring a story of unsung heroes and their families. Commemorating the contributions of those protecting the country at the borders, Anurag Singh tells stories of bravery and sacrifices with a cinematic touch. Border 2 takes JP Dutta’s legacy forward with real-life incidents that took place alongside the Battle of Longewala in 1971. Sunny is the only common and connecting factor. Border 2 released before Republic Day 2026. Despite its longer runtime and a few weaker moments, the film stands rock solid with impressive and emotional scenes. A surprising climax adds value to it. Five standout sequences in the film make it a perfect Republic Day watch. Here are the moments that stay back forever.
Sister's plea to bring her dead brother back
During the 1971 India-Pakistan war, the PAF sends multiple aircrafts to bomb the Srinagar
Air Force strip. Taking a brave decision, Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon takes off before the airstrip is affected. Despite being outnumbered by the enemy, he doesn’t stop chasing the aircrafts. Amid the air combat, he is shot. When Hoshiar Singh Dahiya reaches his house in Punjab with his mortal remains for the final rites, Sekhon’s younger sister asks her ‘Veerji’ to bring him back. As
Mitti Ke Bete song plays in the background, the scene pricks through the heart sharply. It highlights the pain and grief of the martyred officer’s family.
Brotherhood is unconditional
It is time for the Armed Forces to receive ‘sandesa’ (letter) from their family members. While the army officers are happy to hear from their loved ones, Santram learns that his mother succumbed to a brief illness. Drowning in grief, he feels guilty for not being able to light her pyre and see her for the last time. Nishan Singh, who receives the news of becoming a father to a baby girl, consoles him. When Santram gets to know the good news, he covers his grief under the blanket and decides to celebrate the birth of Nishan’s daughter. As a tribute to Santram’s mother, Nishan names his daughter Parvati. Such honest and unconditional brotherhood makes Indians special.
When family saves the soldier's life
Hoshiar Singh Dahiya bravely fights the Pakistani army on the battlefield. However, he is severely injured. He lies unconscious. Suddenly, he is running through a narrow lane. Hoshiar opens a gate and sees his wife, Dhanvanti, cradling a baby in the wooden cradle he handcrafted for the child before leaving for the war. Hoshiar had promised Dhanvanti that he would return to know the baby’s gender. When he is about to see the baby, he wakes up and fights to survive for his family. It is a cinematic, emotional and impactful scene that depicts the importance of family and the turmoil a soldier has to experience each day.
Maa Shakti
28 years after Suniel Shetty said, “Maa Shakti” in
Border, his son Ahan Shetty gives it a new spin in the spiritual sequel. He plays Mahendra S Rawat, a Navy officer, who single-handedly attacks the Pakistan Navy Daphné that damaged the Indian Naval Ship Khukri. After rescuing his colleagues from the sinking ship, Rawat fulfils his duty towards the country by taking the right measures. A Goddess Durga drawing by his daughter gives him the strength to fight till his last breath. As he drowns in the water, the drawing floats above his body.
OG hero saves the day
Pakistani tanks have entered India. Fateh Singh Karel cinematically dodges them and attempts to finish them with his presence of mind. However, Hoshiar Singh Dahiya is trapped. When the tank is about to shoot him down, Fateh fires his weapon and beheads the enemy country’s officer. He encourages Hoshiar and the survivors of the war to hoist the Indian flag. The climax of
Border 2 is mind-blowing, surprising and worth sitting for over 3 hours.
