The actor recently opened up about auditioning for The Office and shared that he had also tried for everything including Arrested Development.

According to a report in Entertainment Weekly, Radnor, who portrayed Ted for nine seasons, revealed the name of the shows he auditioned for, before landing his breakout role. Among his auditions was the role of Jim Halpert in the American version of
The Office, which premiered in 2005.Recalling the audition during a recent episode of the
How We Made Your Mother podcast with Jenna Fischer, who played Pam, Jim’s love interest, Radnor admitted he didn’t fully grasp the character at the time. He shared, “I didn’t quite understand if he was smart or not smart,” Radnor said. “I was a little confused about whether he was part of the smart gang or the not-so-smart gang. I remember having a good audition, but my improvs, I think, made him seem a little too dim, at least that’s what I realised later.”

Josh Radnor recalls giving 'terrible audition'
He clarified that it wasn’t a “terrible audition,” just not quite the right fit. He explained,“I just don’t think I completely understood the tone. But I think we all landed in the right place anyway.”As people know, the role of Jim eventually went to John Krasinski, who brought a perfect mix of humour, snark, and sweetness to the character, particularly in his interactions with Pam. Krasinski remained on the show for all nine seasons, concluding in 2013.
